Honor 9 Lite is now made in India

Huawei's sub-brand Honor on Wednesday announced that they will now locally manufacture the Honor 9 Lite in India. The smartphone manufacturer said that the local manufacturing of the Honor phone will take place at the Flex plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. This initiative by Honor is a part of a commitment to PM Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' program.

Honor hasn't yet revealed details about when the company is planning to start the local manufacturing process of the Honor 9 Lite. Apart from Honor, other smartphone companies like Xiaomi and Apple also manufacture Redmi 5A aka 'Desh ka smartphone' and iPhone SE locally.

Commenting on the decision to manufacturer Honor 9 Lite locally in India, Vice-President, Sales, Huawei Consumer Business Group P Sanjeev says, "When we started manufacturing devices in September 2016 with Honor Holly 3, it was our first step towards bringing Honor closer to our fans in India in the years to come. The local production of our top-seller Honor 9 Lite today is yet another milestone in our 16-year journey in India. The "Make in India" initiative has been a great opportunity for us to contribute to India's evolution in the technology and manufacturing sector."

Honor launched the 9 Lite earlier this year for a starting price of Rs 10,999. Chances are the price of the Honor 9 Lite in India may drop after the company starts manufacturing the phone locally. Honor claims that Honor 9 Lite is the company's most successful smartphone in India with over 1 million units sold since launch.

The Honor 9 Lite sells in two storage variants, 32GB for Rs 10,999 and 64GB for Rs 14,999. The smartphone is currently selling across Flipkart, and Honor's own e-store HiHonor.com/in.

In terms of specs, the Honor 9 Lite comes with a 5.65-inch FullView FHD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and minimal bezels around. The screen is covered with a layer of a double-sided 2.5D glass to improve the aesthetics of the phone. The Honor 9 Lite is armed with an octa-core Kirin 659 chipset. On the software front, the smartphone runs EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. Currently, there're no words if Honor will upgrade the phone to the latest software Android P or not.

Honor 9 Lite comes in two RAM variants - 3GB and 4GB. It also comes with two storage models - 32GB and 64GB expandable via microSD card. On the optics department, the smartphone comes with dual cameras on both front and rear. The smartphone features a combination of 13MP + 2MP sensor on both front and back side with several camera modes like Bokeh, Panorama among others. The smartphone houses a 3000mAh battery which Honor says is capable of delivering a standby time of 24 days and talk time of up to 20 hours.
