Xiaomi MIUI 10 global ROM announced in India, beta version set to roll out in mid-June

week after announcing it in China, Xiaomi has announced the MIUI 10 global ROM (beta) for India. The MIUI 10 global ROM will be rolled out in beta, for eligible Xiaomi devices, starting from mid-June. While last year's MIUI 9 was focused on offering explosively fast app launch times, the MIUI 10, brings in lot and lots of machine learning and AI smarts, to Xiaomi's Android-based MIUI. Not to mention, a new look as well. The company, in addition, also took the wraps off of a few India-specific nuggets that it is working on and will be shipped along with MIUI 10, in the days to come.

The MIUI 10, which should be based on Android Oreo (Xiaomi does not have a detailed log yet), is largely focused on artificial intelligence. Especially with regards to in-house camera software, that is found on-board the Xiaomi phones based on MIUI. "MIUI 10 lets you create awesome AI portraits with beautiful bokeh effects," says Xiaomi adding that MIUI 10 will apparently be able to help get better bokeh shots from both the front as well as the rear cameras. MIUI 10, according to Xiaomi, will make a single camera phone as good as a dual camera, in terms of taking bokeh shots, using deep learning algorithms. The company, in fact, is touting, more or less similar portait mode expereinces using single lens on both front and as well as the back cameras. The functionality will be rolled out for the front camera to begin with and the rear camera will be getting it later.

The MIUI 10, in addition, will be able to reduce load times to zero by "studying your behaviour and anticipating actions," according to Xiaomi. Xiaomi says that the MIUI 10 is as much as 10 per cent faster than last year's MIUI 9.

Xiaomi is also bringing more gesture control on top of what you already get with MIUI 9.5, and a new vertically scrolling 'recents tab' for "maximising screen space." Xiaomi says the tab is inspired from its existing notes app.

The new look isn't limited to just the in-house looks (including lock screen, notifications and more), Xiaomi phones will also be getting new sounds post the MIUI 10 update. Notifications will get new sounds inspired from nature, with Xiaomi claiming, that no two notifications will sound the same. At the same time, it is bringing ambient noises of nature to its timer app.

India-specific features to be introduced with MIUI 10 include a new browser app with support for progressive app shortcuts, a new messages app with contextual menu and Paytm QR-code scanning shortcut built right into the camera app.
