The family of 24-year-old photographer Ankit Saxena, who was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend’s family in west Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar nearly five months ago, organised an iftar party on Sunday.

The party was organised under the banner of the Ankit Saxena Trust at the home of the deceased. The event, which was free of political interference, attended by scores of locals.

‘Overwhelming response’
“We received an overwhelming and unexpected response from people belonging to all walks of life. When the idea to organise an iftar party was presented before the the locality, I was amazed to see people from other communities came forward to help with the arrangements,” said Ankit’s father Yashpal Saxena.

Ankit was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend’s family a few metres from his house on February 1. The woman’s family, which belongs to a different community, was against the relationship.

The iftar party, attended by people from all communities, was organised by Ankit’s friends and family members. “Our message is clear. We want peace and harmony in the area. I hold no grudge against any community,” said Mr. Saxena, adding, “the trust will also organise Ganesh Chaturthi, Navaratri and various festivals celebrated by other communities as well.”
